One of the concepts that the kids say over and over is, "Don't leave before the miracle happens." It helps them stay in the program when they are feeling down or stuck in the program. Last night was our program graduation and she requested Cup Noodles to be on the menu. Some people who don't know her history probably thought that she was just being a silly kid. There's a good story behind this.
None of the kids come into the program skipping down the walkway with a big smile. Most are very reluctant and some even cry. She was no exception. In fact, she was probably one of the worst cases. She threw a fit and her parents had to tackle her down. They spent hours outside trying to convince her to stay. It seemed like an endless task, but there was some hope. She was hungry. Her counselor went inside looking for something for her to eat. The only thing they could find that she could eat was a cup of noodles. She was overcome by hunger and opted to stay.
Graduation is really only the beginning, but I wanna say, good job!
